R&B singer John Legend is seeking non-traditional advertisers to power his upcoming as-yet-untitled album, slated for September.

Legend recently previewed eight new songs for Billboard at New York’s Legacy studios and reported he is meeting with several advertising firms to discuss new promotional strategies for his forthcoming LP.

“I want to go beyond what the label machine always does and think of some cool ideas,” said Legend, who declined to name the ad agencies he’s meeting with. “Labels get into a creative rut. I want an ad firm that launches other products to use their knowledge to launch my music. It’d be cool to get ideas from a firm that can still reach my marketplace. We’re taking proposals now.”

As for the music, Legend replaced his usual live instruments with sampled drums and futuristic synthesizers. The tracks sound much more mainstream than his 2004 debut, “Get Lifted,” and 2006 follow-up, “Once Again.”

“The last record was mellower,” says Legend. “The production this time is a little more up-tempo and more pop sounding than the last one.”

Legend admits that he was a bit disappointed with sales of “Once Again” — which has moved 1.2 million units to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan — but says he was not intentionally crafting radio-friendly songs this go-round. “Get Lifted” has sold 2.1 million units to date.

“‘Once Again‘ was difficult for people to digest because it wasn’t any one radio format,” says Legend. “It was between formats and there wasn’t an obvious place for everything to fit. I’ve been successful without a huge radio hit up until now, so I don’t think about the radio when I make songs.

“Artistically, ‘Once Again‘ was a great album, better than ‘Get Lifted,’” Legend adds. “I had a bigger tour on the second album and it set me up to be an artist that’s around for a long time, so I just have to capitalize on that.”

Legend is putting the finishing touches on his first single, “Green Light,” featuring Outkast’s Andre 3000, and expects to shoot the video in May. “It’s Over,” featuring Kanye West and produced by Pharrell Williams, may be the second single but Legend hasn’t yet committed.

Avrà un sound tendente pop e ricco d uptempo. L artista, protegè d Kanye West, cerca qlks ke possa piacere al grande pubblico, ammettendo ke i precedenti lavori erano molto fuorimercato e adatti a poki. Tra le traccie, qst confermate, Green Light, in collaborazione cn Andre 300, sarà il primo singolo e il video verrà girato a maggio, mentre Its Over, in collabo cn Kanye e prodotta da Pharrell, potrebbe essere il secondo estratto.

In un intervista col blog Parlour, John Legend ha annunciato ke il suo secondo singolo sarà o la traccia prodotta da Neptunes ed in collaborazione cn Kanye, Its Over, o Everybody Knows. Parlando dell album l artista ha confessato ke la traccia Aim High, altra produzione Neptunes, sarà l unico flashback verso il vekkio stile Legend cn un sound molto soulful e acustico, mentre ha definito la traccia Good Morning cm una sexy slow da stripper, magari adatta per una lep dance.

Quelli d Parlour hanno avuto la possibilità d ascoltare qlk traccia, e questo è ciò ke pensano

Green Light ft Andre 3000- sounds futuristic with tapping drums and John singing “give me the green light, give me just one night…I’m ready to go right now” and Andre hopes that “you’re more like Anita Baker than Robin Givens.” Anything with Dre makes us smile.

Satisfaction- producer will.i.am pops out the synthy chords and melodious chorus and John’s asking “can I get me some satisfaction?” over rising keys. Ehn…

Everybody Knows- got some stabbing drums, guitar strums, layered chorus that swells as Mr. Legend sings “I wish we gave it one more try.”

No Other Love ft Estelle- reggae beat, estelle = niceness

Cross The Line-producer will.i.am broke out the Three6 Mafia drums on this one. Ae you guys sure you didn’t hit the strip club John?

Good Morning- ok, John played this joint twice and wouldn’t let us talk or take notes. What we can say is that this jam is all about good morning loving. PARLOUR COSIGN.

Aim High- here we’re back to classic john, through acoustic instruments and surprisingly, The Neptunes produced it. we don’t think the duo made the Once Again credits so it’s good to see The Neptunes and John back together again.
